Someone recently asked me why I began blogging. My immediate answer was because it is what God was telling me to do, but there is a longer answer to that question. Yes, I blog because I felt led to do so (that is a story for another day,) but also for other reasons: ~ I love writing. I love putting my thoughts down on paper, whether writing in a journal, scribbling it on a piece of scrap paper, or typing in a Word document. I love writing in note cards, for essays, when writing a teaching or workshop message, and even when sending an encouraging text to a friend. I have had a fascination with stories and words for as long as I can remember. I just love words: words that sound funny, new-to-me words, the dictionary (I know that is nerdy!), using a thesaurus, quotations, Bible ... View Post

Breakfast Cookies
Cookies for breakfast? Why not! I was given this recipe a few years back from a friend, and I make them often. In fact, one of my children asked me to stop making them because she got tired of them! I took a break from making them, and my husband wondered why I hadn't made them recently. I whipped up a batch and remembered why I used to bake them all the time. They are a delicious grab-and-go cookie and easy to make. Try one with your morning coffee or pack one (or two!) in your lunch. You can easily double the recipe, and they freeze well. Here is the recipe: 1/2 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup organic brown sugar (or coconut sugar) 1 egg 3/4 cup peanut butter (I used natural peanut butter) 2 cups old fashioned oats (use gluten-free if needed) 1 teaspoon baking ... Airplane Etiquette 101
Have you ever been in shock from watching a fellow airplane passenger do/say something incredulous? Oh, the stories I could tell! I am always surprised at how inconsiderate some fliers can be. None of us are thrilled to be crammed into a metal tube that flies through the air at 35,000 feet, but there are ways to make it more pleasant. One of those ways is to have consideration for other passengers. You would think the suggestions below would be obvious, but let me tell you, they are NOT! Next time you fly, take into account those seated nearby. Because of the proximity of passengers, any one of these offenses listed below could make your flight less than desirable. This list is compiled based on what I have seen when flying. Airplane Etiquette Suggestions Please don’t bring ... View Post

Simple, Fudgy Brownies
Who doesn't love a good brownie? Brownies are one of my family's favorites, and they are so easy to make. I never understand why someone would use a brownie mix when making them is so simple. They taste SO MUCH better when made from scratch. I have been known to whip up a batch of brownies at the last minute at the request of family and friends or if we have unexpected guests. This brownie recipe is another recipe I have been using for years! I love it because everything gets thrown into one pot, they bake, and they are done! So simple! You can switch it up by adding any nuts you like or omitting them altogether. You can add white chocolate chips instead of chopped chocolate or use almond extract instead of vanilla. Any way you choose, I can guarantee they ... View Post
