My Reading List~

Monday ushered in the first official day of autumn🍂. Though summertime remains my favorite season, fall contains its own unique and distinctive elements. I enjoy the changing leaves, apple picking, the crisp air, and bowls of homemade soup.
It’s a time to bring out the cozy blankets, wear chunky sweaters, and wrap myself in a warm scarf. It is the season to sip pumpkin spice lattes and lounge in a comfortable spot to read an engaging novel.
My 2019 fall reading list won’t be as extensive as my summer list was (I read 25 books!), but it’s still ambitious for a busy next three months. The books I selected are mostly fiction, with just a few non-fiction reads. Many of the choices came highly recommended by friends or avid readers with similar taste to mine.
So, let’s jump right into my fall reading list. There are ten books here plus one I just finished.
Fiction:
Elinor Oliphant is Completely Fine– I actually just finished reading this quirky novel. Honestly, I wasn’t so sure about it when I first began it but ended up loving this one!
The Gown-This one is a historical novel about Queen Elizabeth’s wedding gown. I’m a big fan of The Crown, so this should be enjoyable.
A Fall of Marigolds– One reviewer described this as “a courageous novel, moving with great insight between the haunting parallel stories of two women trying to recover from the losses of a terrible fire in 1911 New York City and the unforgettable fall of the twin towers on 9/11. An uncommon celebration of the human spirit in the face of unspeakable tragedy, A Fall of Marigolds is a beautiful reminder that although life is perilous, love is a powerful healer.” I can’t wait to read this one!
Where the Forest Meets the Stars– With over 4,400 great reviews, this enchanting novel about a field biologist meeting a mysterious girl appears to be a heartwarming, worthwhile story.
An American Marriage– People keep raving about this novel naming it a “must-read.” I’ve been looking forward to reading this one for a while.
Field Notes on Love– Though this novel of two teens traveling together on a cross-country train trip categorically falls in young adult fiction, friends have highly recommended this read.
Daisy Jones and the Six– This is another read that created quite a bit of hype. It’s about a fictional 1970s rock band and their split.
Jayber Crow– Wendell Berry weaves a beautiful story of a barber finding community, love, and a sense of place.
Non-Fiction:
I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness– This candid memoir discusses the issues of race, Christianity, apathy, and justice and how they are interwoven.
I Miss You When I Blink– A description from the editor: “In this memoir-in-essays full of spot-on observations about home, work, and creative life, Philpott takes on the conflicting pressures of modern adulthood with wit and heart.” I’ve heard great things about this one.
Heavy– Named best book of 2018 by the NY Times and other publications, this memoir with over 11,000 reviews on Goodreads, examines the life of the author growing up as a black man in the South. He writes about poverty, racial violence, abuse, friendship, and identity, to name a few.
Have you read any of these books? Thoughts?

I loved Eleanor Oliphant, I’m Still Here and Field Notes on Love. I liked Daisy Jones & The Six. I have heard mixed reviews on An American Marriage so let me know what you think. I haven’t read Jayber Crow but really liked Hannah Coulter by Wendell Berry. Can’t wait to hear what you think of these!
