Let’s chat about natural cleaners.
I will admit that I am a bit of a germaphobe. I love hand sanitizer, squeaky clean bathrooms, swept floors, and shiny kitchen counters. The kitchen is of particular importance to me because germs/dirt/food do not mix well in my book. I work from home, so breakfast and lunch are eaten at home, plus I cook dinner about six nights a week. This means lots of dishes and mess. Dinnertime can be especially messy with several pots and pans and plenty of clean-up afterward. We usually run the dishwasher and wipe down our stove, countertops, and sink nightly.
We installed granite countertops years ago, and I have tried a variety of products for cleaning it. I then learned that some ingredients are harmful to the granite, such as vinegar, bleach, glass cleaner, or some anti-bacterial sprays. I began researching appropriate products to use and realized I could make my own at a fraction of the cost. Also, I have made a conscious effort to reduce the use of chemicals in my home, and it began with this granite spray.
It is really easy to make and works wonders on my countertops!
This recipe is mostly water and alcohol with tiny bits of dish soap and essential oil to mask the strong smell of the alcohol. Alcohol is a natural disinfectant, dries quickly, and cuts grease well. I most often use grapefruit essential oil because I love the fresh, citrus scent, but I use tea tree oil as well. You can add drops of whichever essential oils you like best. I always use these soft microfiber cloths to wipe the counters.
All the ingredients are safe for granite. Hooray!
I purchased my glass bottle, grapefruit essential oil, and dish soap from here. I buy from this company because they sell only natural products and their prices are competitive. I have no affiliation with them; I just love the company!

Have you ever made your own cleaning products? I have made furniture polish, shower spray, window cleaner, and room deodorizer.
What do you use to keep your countertops clean and shiny? Comment below. I would love to hear!

Who doesn’t want shiny counters – I do, I found you from the Christian Women Bloggers Unite group and pinned your recipe 🙂 Thanks for sharing with us! I love essential oils and using natural as much as I can. Do you have a good glass cleaner that takes grime away. I am looking at my shower door – : (. Have a great day Erin @ perfectlyportfamily

Hi Erin. I love using natural products as much as possible, too. The best thing for glass is a mixture of vinegar and water- 2 cups filtered water, 2 tbs vinegar, 7-10 drops essential oil to mask the yucky vinegar smell. Hope it works for you!

This is such a great recipe, I added lemon essential oil to mine and it smells wonderful!! I typically just get my granite deep cleaned and sealed by a local tile cleaner and they always do a great job. But this is a very effective recipe to help keep my counters clean in between professional cleanings!

Hi Sarah,
I used lemon on occasion, too ☺️. I no longer live in that house where I had granite, and now have quartz in my kitchen. I still use the same spray as a countertop disinfectant. Have a great day!
