10 Ways to Keep the Romance Alive in Your Marriage

“Marriage is a mosaic you build with your spouse—millions of tiny moments that create your love story.”
Jennifer Smith

Let’s chat about ways to keep the romance alive in your marriage.

I believe it is something not talked about enough. After a period of time in a relationship, it seems the spark fades and boredom or discontent sets in. A way to reclaim joy and excitement in your marriage is to create a more romantic relationship.

Romance is the heartbeat of a marriage.

According to the Oxford dictionary, romance is “a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love.” Often, people associate romance with the dating period and with newlyweds, but why shouldn’t romance last the lifetime of marriage? It is a critical element for keeping the fire going in a relationship, and I would argue that most all want to keep their love alive. Romance is the heartbeat of a marriage.

10 Ways to Keep the Romance Alive in Your Marriage

Romance is the outward expression of your faithful love to one another.

This aspect of love brings joy to your mate and makes him feel special. For passion continuing past the dating and newlywed phase, commitment to being intentional is essential. “God’s purpose for marriage is for a husband and wife to experience a love relationship, where they passionately pursue each other daily, where the ups and downs draw them closer together, a place where true intimacy thrives.” Wife After God: Drawing Closer to God & Your Husband by Jennifer Smith

10 Ways to Keep the Romance Alive in Your Marriage

Below are some suggestions on how to keep the romance alive in your marriage:

  1. Tell your spouse you love him every single day.
  2. Buy your husband an unexpected gift- it can be a little present or something you know he has wanted for a while.
  3. Feed your husband chocolate covered strawberries.
  4. On ten different sticky notes, write one aspect you love about your husband and leave the notes in various places for him to find.
  5. Leave a sexy message on your husband’s voicemail.
  6. Plan a romantic dinner out or at home.
  7. Write your husband a love note on the bathroom mirror using a dry erase marker.
  8. Offer to give him a foot or back massage.
  9. Organize a mystery date and whisk your spouse away for the day.
  10. Compliment your husband in front of others- family, friends, coworkers, at church, etc.
